Innovations in chemical sciences has crossed the boundaries of multiple branches emerging with new dimensions of understanding and applications and with this aim the Department of chemistry, The IIS University has organised a 2 day national conference from 18-19 january 2017 on “New Vistas in Chemical Research”.
The scope of the conference has been kept broad based with the intention that the young research scholars and PG students can get exposed to the contemporary topics of research. The conference commenced at 10:00 am on 18 Jan. 2017 with the inaugural session seeking the blessings of almighty followed by lighting up the lamp by all the dignitaries on the dais, after which the conference patron Dr. Ashok Gupta extended the warm welcome to all the resource persons, , delegates, and participants. It was followed by the release of Science Spectrum and the IISU Journal of science and technology.
Prof. R.K. Bansal, conference director acquainted the audience with the aims and objectives of the conference and introduced Prof. Walter Thiel and Prof. Goverdhan Mehta. Prof. Mehta gave an inaugural lecture on the Dimensionality of chemistry: a science for global sustainability in the 21 century. He emphasized the role of chemists to provide sustainability in environment, energy and agriculture. He appreciated the role of chemists while dealing with the medical problems including MDR bacteria and viruses. The session ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Raakhi Gupta, Registrar and Conference director.
The inaugural session was followed by six technical sessions spread over 2 days
The first technical session was chaired by Prof. Ganesh Pandey, Director CBMR, Lucknow. In this session, keynote address was delivered by Prof. Walter Thiel, Director, Max-Planck institute for coal research .He gave an insightful lecture on the current Status and Perspectives of the computational chemistry. He highlighted the applications of abinitio calculations, DFT, Semi Empirical Calculations and qm/mm modeling.
The keynote address was followed by the lecture of Prof. J.S. Yadav on “Pheromone Application Technology in Sustainable Agriculture”. He emphasized on the implementation of pheromone technology as an eco-friendly pest control strategy for reducing burden of chemical pesticides in the farming community and environment.
The second technical session was chaired by Prof. R.K. Bansal and the invited speakers were Prof. Ganesh pandey and Prof. Manoj kumar.
Prof. Pandey discussed about a new approach for C-H alkylation of t-amines and benzylic sp3 C-H functionalization via vis. light photoredox catalysis.
Prof. Manoj Kumar put light on the various properties and the potential applications of hexaphenylbenzene derivatives and the formation of fluorescent aggregates.
The third technical session was chaired by Prof. Anshu Dandia, head, dept. of chemistry univ. of raj. In this session various oral presentations were delivered by young scientists on various areas of chemistry.
At the end of the day, cultural extravaganza was performed by the students of The IIS University .
Day 2
The second day of the conference commenced with the IV technical session wherein the poster presentations were made in the seminar and research category. The V technical session was chaired by Prof. R.T. Pradasani, Dean school of sciences, Central Unvi. of Raj. The chief speakers were Prof. Ranjana agarwal and Prof. R.K.Bansal.
Prof. Ranjana Agarwal discussed the medicinal importance of the heterocyclic scaffold. Her talk focused on regioselective synthesis and characterization of fused pyrazoles and their anti inflammatory activity and cytotoxicity against various cancer cell lines.
Prof. R.K. Bansal, Emeritus Prof., the IIS Univ., Jaipur emphasized on the synergy between experimental and theoretical results. He focused on the use of computational chemistry as an efficient tool for various chemical reaction mechanisms and predicting their viability.
The last technical session was chaired by Prof. ranjana Agarwal.. The invited speakers of this session were Prof. P.V. Bharatam, prof. dalip kumar and Prof. R. T. Pardasani.
Prof. PV Bharatam highlighted on several theraupetically important compounds like metformin, proguanil and guanidinine derivatives as a potential nucleus for antimalarial drug therapy.
Prof. Dalip kumar explained about organoiodine reagents as a better alternative to the transition metal catalyzed reactions.
Prof. R.T. Pardasani presented a lecture on transition metal catalyzed synthesis of biologically active heterocyclic scaffolds. He focused on the application of isocyanide insertion reaction, multicomponent reaction etc. in the construction of complex heterocyclic molecules for cancer therapy.
The session ended with the poster presentations in the faculty category.The conference enlightened all the delegates with the new vistas in chemistry.
